The Norwegian National Team in San Marino, 2008
THE NORWEGIAN ACADEMY OF ARTISTIC FENCING
The Academy was established in 2007. It was recognized as the National Academy of Norway by Academie d´Armes Internationale in 2008.
The Norwegian Academy organizes the Norwegian National Team in Stage Fencing, which competes on the highest international level.
It also offers training on any level in the form of workshops, and on an by-invitation-only basis for members and prospect members of the National Team.
With the exception of the grade Master, the Academy recognizes and subscribes to the graduating authority of the Nordic Stage Fight Society (NSFS).
The Academy is closely associated with the Stage Fighting Group at KULTA, Tromsø, where weekly training takes place. Head instructor is Kristoffer Jørgensen.
Training hours
Tuesdays 19.30 - 21.00: Basic to intermediate
Thursdays 19.30 - 22.00: Advanced
Objects of the Academy
The Academy has the following objects and areas of interest:
To set the highest standard possible for practitioners, instructors and choreographers of stage fighting/artistic fencing.
To contribute to the evolution of artistic fencing in all shapes and forms, as an art form, a paedagogical tool and as an independent concept.
To encourage and recruit practitioners, instructors and choreographers.
To work towards strengthening the various aspects of art, sport, history and science that exists within the culture of fencing and related martial arts; to promote the exchange of knowledge and expertise on fencing as an artistic expression, profession, recreational activity and object of research, also across the traditional boundaries between sport, art and history.
To contribute to the professional growth of artistic fencing in Norway.
To contribute to an increase in Norway being represented at international competitions in artistic fencing.
Teaching syllabus
The Academy teaches 9 weapons up to and including NSFS Test level:
Unarmed
Single Rapier
Broadsword
Rapier and dagger
Sword and shield
Quarterstaff
Smallsword
Knife
Theatrical Martial Arts
In addition, advanced training in these and other weapons disciplines is available. The Academy continually researches a variety of weapons and fighting styles, both historical and contemporary.
